Like many women, the care I received throughout my maternity journey was inconsistent and, at times, negligent. In my case, these failures nearly cost me my life. The postnatal ward lacked compassion, empathy and continuity of care, leaving me feeling unsupported when I needed help most. Accessing mental health support after birth has also been extremely difficult, despite referrals being made. We are calling for a National Welsh Inquiry into maternity services to investigate systemic failures, hear directly from affected families, review standards of care and access to maternal mental health services, and make recommendations for meaningful reform. Mothers, babies and families deserve safe, compassionate and accountable care.
