If this is allowed to go ahead it could open the door to numerous privately owned nuclear power stations across Cymru. \r\n\r\nThe unsolicited proposal is of concern to communities for many reasons, including the prospect of radioactive waste being in situ for a minimum of fifty years.\r\n\r\nWales has an abundance of other forms of energy generation available which are safer, quicker and cheaper.","additional_details":"Micro nuclear reactors, including Small Modular reactors (SMRs), are unproven technology.\r\n \r\nNuclear power is not renewable. It needs uranium, a finite resource, harmful to health from the mining stage.\r\n \r\nFission produces radioactive waste, including plutonium. This needs to be kept on site for a long period. Currently no disposal sites exist for the waste after the operation/cooling period of 50 years. Enriched uranium has a half life > 700 million years.\r\n \r\nUK nuclear submarines, using this 1960s design, stored since the 1990s have yet to be decommissioned.
