Deiseb a wrthodwyd Control the Compassionless Development of Devastating Industrial Poultry Units (IPUs) in Wales

We the undersigned call on Welsh Government to take action to ensure IPUs meet: Clean Air Plan for Wales; Wales Animal Health & Welfare Framework Implementation Plan; Environment Act; Conservation of Habitats & Species Regulations; Well-Being of Future Generations Act & Water Framework Directive. WG has ignored known environmental consequences. Public Concerns: human/avian health/welfare, environment, bad odour, HGV traffic on B road, poor food production v farming reputation & 0 jobs v risks

Contributing factors: 1) Wilful IPU developers. Anglesey, already has millions of chickens in conventional factory sheds & is now targeted with its 1st 32,000 bird proposal. We fear it is a green light for many more IPUs across Anglesey with Powys a prime example (Guardian 7/4/20 & 20/6/20 & POWYS Poultry Study & INI Nitrogen Alerts NRW 6/17/18). NRW are concerned re. Anglesey site as background ammonia/nitrogen deposition rates are already above critical level/load. Water courses from the site will drain to Llyn Alaw which is a SSSI & supplies northen Anglesey with drinking water (letter from NRW to IOACC 20/12/2019). 2)Bespoke permits for units less than 40,000 birds are not required & a cumulative environmental impact of multiple units in 1 area has never been taken into account. Powys is our evidence, we are fighting for Anglesey but our petition protects All Wales. We request: a) National policy on IPU development b) IPU developers are governed & c) The 40,000 bird rule is revoked
