Deiseb a wrthodwyd Fully re-open respite services for adults with learning disabilities.

Since March 2020, respite services in Wales were shut due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This has left countless individuals, with learning disabilities, without their basic human right of being able to socialise with the appropriate support network they require. It’s also left those who care for them 24/7 without their much needed break. This causes extreme stress on all. Respite care is invaluable in supporting families and giving time to be able to de-stress and take care of themselves.

The partial closure of respite care has affected countless families in Wales.
I am calling for them to be fully opened up where clients can fully mix again.
My sister Yasmin has been offered one stay in 20 months and due to social distancing was kept by herself.

Yasmin has severe learning disabilities with drug-resistant epilepsy. She requires 24/7 care from our mother.
The extreme stress on our mother, who’s had no rest or break but also on my sister who has not been able to have her own place to visit to de-stress herself, is heartbreaking.

The mental health and well-being of these individuals and their carers should be as important, if not more, to the government as any other service already fully opened up.

Adults with learning disabilities need their respite back.
