Deiseb a wrthodwyd We want the Welsh government to keep the new 20mph law
The new 20mph law came into force in Wales on the 17th September. The new rule mainly affects residential areas, and not major roads.
One of the major benefits cited by the Welsh Government for introducing the new law is that it will reduce road traffic collisions (RTCs) and thus save lives. We welcome the new law as an opportunity to escape the tyranny of motorists many of which already ignore the 30mph speed restrictions in force in residential areas. Let's reclaim our roads for people!

There are many other benefits to the new law beyond simply reducing RTCs, which include:
- Healthier Communities - communities can start to reclaim the roads, with children and adults playing, walking and cycling without being intimidated by motorists who frequently exceed the 30 mph speed limit as they use residential areas as short cuts.
- Quieter communities - cutting speed, means cutting down on noise and improving wellbeing. Noise pollution in all of our communities is a major issue and our residential communities should be havens, not motoring hells.
- Less Pollution - there are already speed restrictions in place on many sections of motorway and other major arterial roads which are designed to reduce air pollution. Air pollution is becoming one of the major killers in our communities and cutting speed is proven to cut pollution.
- Less congestion and traffic jams - There is clear evidence that cutting speed improves traffic flow and eases congestion.
