Deiseb a wrthodwyd Reduce the required minimum age to hold a driving licence to 14.
The goal of this petition is for the Senedd to reduce the required minimum age to hold a driving licence to 14.
I believe this change should be implemented as a persons eligibility to hold a driving licence, is determined by the driving test, in which candidates are assessed on the ability to drive a vehicle, and not their age.
I think that a minimum age of 14 is a sensible compromise, which adheres to the points I have made, while ensuring sufficient maturity.

As mentioned, I believe that people aged 14 or above should be able to take a driving test, as whether a person is awarded a driving licence is based purely on merit of their ability to drive a vehicle, and not how old they are.
For reference, the FIA (governing body of motor sport) allows people aged 14 and above to take an ARDS test, in which successful candidates will be awarded a racing licence. This will allow them to compete in international motor sport, which can be dangerous.
Therefore, it seems logical that people aged 14 or above should be allowed to take a UK driving test, which if successful, will enable them to drive on the public highway, a significantly safer activity than racing a vehicle.
I understand that some people may argue that young people are not sensible enough to take a driving test, which is why I believe that 14 years of age is a sensible, compromising minimum age, ensuring sufficient maturity to take the test, and if successful, hold a driving licence.
