Deiseb a wrthodwyd Demand the Senedd Support the Kurdish Community & call for delisting the PKK

We are calling on the Senedd to support the Kurdish community, and to criticise the UK government's recent actions: a continuation of the long criminalisation of Kurdish people.

These actions include the dawn raids on the Kurdish Community Centre, and arrests of local Kurdish community members.

We call for the Welsh Government to deplore the UK government's classification of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) as a terrorist organisation.

In the UK, there are an estimated 50,000 Kurds residing across different cities, forming an integral part of local communities (ONS, 2011 Census).

Many Kurdish people are refugees fleeing torture, imprisonment and death. Despite their contributions to our society, they face represion by the UK government which is acting on behalf of its NATO ally Tuyrkiye, which has been run by the fascist dictator Erdogan for the last 22 years.

PKK is deemed by many Kurdish people as a force of resistance against Turkish governmental oppression, and has actively fought against ISIS, bringing peace and stability to the region (International Crisis Group Report, 2020).

Kurdish people in south Wales and their allies have also faced criminalisation by the Welsh Counter Terror command over many years, leading to their harassment at airports under Schegule 7 and also has lead to them unable to get bank accounts. People are on police bail for many years without charge.
