Deiseb a wrthodwyd Resurrect Wales Autism Bill 2019: Round 2 - Urgent Action for Improved Services & Reduced Wait Times
My previous petition (P-06-1513) for a Wales Autism Bill was closed despite strong support, including from Mark Isherwood MS & Paul Davies MS. This rejection, following similar failed Bills in 2016 and 2019, highlights an urgent, unresolved need for dedicated autism legislation. With diagnosis wait times reaching 26 months, the current system is failing autistic individuals and their families across Wales. We need a Bill to mandate action and ensure equitable, timely services.
Rhagor o fanylion
Reliance on a Code of Practice fails Welsh autism services. Mark Isherwood MS, Chair of Cross-Party Autism/Disability Groups, fully supports resurrecting the Bill, noting his 2016 and Paul Davies MS's 2019 Bills were rejected. Paul Davies MS's 2019 speech highlighted Labour's vote against the Autism Bill and "tribalism" preventing Senedd breakthroughs, alleging the Minister for Health justified its rejection despite views. Appalling 26-month diagnosis wait times result from inadequate provision, delaying vital support. A Wales Autism Bill is crucial to mandate reduced waits, consistent services, and dedicated funding, ensuring timely, comprehensive care, aligning with the Future Generations & Wellbeing Act 2015. This profoundly impacts thousands of Welsh citizens, demanding legislative priority. Political representatives must also commit to using the same strained public services as everyone else, instead of private healthcare, to truly understand the urgency.
