Deiseb a wrthodwyd Stop the destruction of Porthcawl's seaside town by building 1100 houses! Improve facilities instead

Rebecca Pacifici: 'An overwhelming 1100 high-rise apartments and houses planned for the last remaining precious green spaces in our town, will undoubtedly bring parking chaos with little space for tourists and day-trippers who embark on the town daily throughout the year.'

It will also put a huge strain on our deficient sewerage system; thus more raw sewage in our beautiful rivers and seas, as well as on roads and already struggling public services, such as NHS, Social Care and Education.

The plans would also jeopardise festivals and events we hold in Porthcawl, such as the world-renowned Elvis Festival, Truck Gathering, Beachfest, Seascape and Pavilion events, to name but a few, which bring pleasure and much-needed revenue to the town. There is also no guarantee that the homes would go to local people.

Rebecca Pacifici: 'We, as a town were hopeful that Porthcawl's regeneration project would help to improve these areas with possibilities like a lido pool and leisure centre and facilities for enrichment and wellbeing that many new coastal developments are providing around the country to enhance and sustain the local economy. Also, lots of green spaces, walkways and areas to help nature thrive, bringing enjoyment and coastal education to local schools, children's parks, leisure activities and at the core of the new concept, helping to regenerate the High Street and further support the local individual shops.

These last remaining areas, once built on, are gone forever!'
