Deiseb a wrthodwyd To return Mumbles Road into a safe highway, as opposed to a drag race strip.
On 18/8/25, the odds shortened and a RTA collision occurred on the pedestrian crossing at Ashleigh Road. The safe pedestrian area at the centre of the carriageway was crushed, and if a family etc. were waiting there to cross the road, they would certainly have perished. One traffic light was left at 45'. SCC and South Wales Police (Go Safe) know about this, but have not addressed the matter. It seems revenue from speed cameras elsewhere negate addressing real areas of concern, such as this.
Rhagor o fanylion
For several years, perhaps decades, Mumbles Road, especially in the summer months, is more akin to a drag race strip than a safe access highway to and from the Mumbles. Despite several communications from concerned residents, incessant reporting of red light jumpers, nothing has or is being done. When crossing the road, you take your life in your hands, especially if you try to consider flow of traffic and cross when vehicles are in the distance. Before you know it, they are whizzing past you at breakneck speeds, sometimes estimated at 100mph+. children and families cross the road to access the beach, coast path etc.. We want this prioritised, and speed cameras, traffic calming, red light detection applied immediately.
