Deiseb a wrthodwyd Reintroduce Home to School bus transport for children attending schools in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The safety of all children attending school should be a primary factor. In RCT the council have decided to remove the transport for any child living within a 3 mile catchment area. To see the roads come to a standstill on the first day back to school due to the parents taking a child by car was ridiculous and the number of children walking alongside busy main road routes with rush hour traffic is horrendous! It does not seem that RCT council has given much thought to children's safety.

What happens during the winter months when children wave goodbye to their parents on a very wet, dark, cold morning and have to walk along the poorly lit streets three miles to school? The dangers they will encounter are beyond imaginable! On top of that, they will need to carry extra clothing so that they can change out of soaking wet clothes when they arrive at school. Has anyone in RCT council walked some of these 3 mile routes on a dark winter morning to encounter the dangers that children will face and to determine how long it takes?? A walk of that distance will possibly take a child upto an hour or more. Any driver will know how poor visibility can be in bad weather, without being on a poorly lit road on a dark winter morning. The safety risks for these children and drivers of our roads have massively increased by this change, just to save on costs. Surely a CHILD'S LIFE is worth more than saving a few pounds, right RCT?? Let's help bring back SAFETY for our children!
