Deiseb a wrthodwyd Remove the regulation of the veterinary industry from the RCVS making it a matter for our Government
Animal welfare except hunting and animal experimentation is devolved to our Senedd Cymru and Government. However the regulation of those who provide much valued and needed services . Including the private equity shareholder companys who now own and run 70% of veterinary practices and associated services. Falls to the RCVS- Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. All practicing veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses have to pay a fee to the RCVS in order to work in the UK.

Set up in 1844 established by royal charter RCVS has regulatory powers enshrined in legislation. In recent years the college have repeatedly blamed the Veterinary Surgeons Act for their shortcomings. It's widely known they want to remove the system of voting on members to their governing council . To a system where people are appointed by them . Numerous committees of former UK Governments have strongly expressed concerns that the RCVS are not fit for purpose. The British Veterinary Union have started they conduct themselves " like an old boys club " . It could be argued that the behaviour exhibited by two former Presidents of the RCVS in our Senedd also casts doubt. On their ability or will to understand the issues we face, some of which are unique to us in the different areas of Wales. It's interesting to note that both the CMA of the UK Government and Which? Have expressed concerns in regards to the current regulatory system. To many including me these senitent beings are family.
