Deiseb a wrthodwyd Reopen and Electrify the Railway Line between Carmarthen and Aberystwyth
Call on the Welsh Government and the UK Government to commit to the reopening and full electrification of the railway line between Carmarthen and Aberystwyth. It is madness that the former railway corridor an invaluable piece of national infrastructure could be lost to development. Once this land is built on, the opportunity to restore a strategic transport link across West Wales may be gone forever. This route must be protected and reinstated, not sacrificed for short-term gain.
Rhagor o fanylion
Reopening the line would deliver major economic benefits to the region. It would connect communities that are currently isolated, making it easier for people to access jobs, education, and services. Businesses would benefit from improved transport links, increasing trade and investment across West Wales. The line would also boost tourism, providing a direct, scenic and sustainable route linking key destinations and supporting local economies year-round.
Electrifying the railway from the outset would future-proof the investment, creating a cleaner, faster, and more reliable transport network. It would reduce carbon emissions, lower long-term operating costs, and align with national climate commitments. This project represents a long-term investment in economic growth, regional equality, and sustainable transport. West Wales deserves the same level of infrastructure ambition as other parts of the UK.
