Deiseb a wrthodwyd Restore the water supply to Thompson’s Park lake immediately.

Thompson’s Park lake has been left without enough water despite repeated complaints to Cardiff Council. As the lake dries out, thick mud is trapping and endangering wildlife. I recently had to rescue a baby moorhen that was stuck and close to dying after becoming trapped in the mud. This situation is preventable. We are calling on Cardiff Council to restore the water immediately and take urgent action to protect the birds and other wildlife that depend on this habitat.

For years residents have been contacting Cardiff Council by phone and email to report the worsening condition of Thompson’s Park lake. Despite these repeated concerns, little appears to have changed. As the water level has fallen, large areas of the lake have turned into thick mud, creating a dangerous environment for birds and other wildlife. I witnessed the consequences firsthand. A young baby moorhen had become trapped in the mud and was struggling to free itself. It was exhausted and at serious risk of dying. I had to climb into the mud and rescue it myself. Had I not been there, it is unlikely the bird would have survived.
This is not an isolated concern. Local people have reported increasing worries about the condition of the lake and the impact on the animals that depend on it. Thompson’s Park is an important habitat for moorhens, ducks and animals.
Wildlife should not suffer because of avoidable delays. It is time for Cardiff Council to act.
