Deiseb a wrthodwyd To intervene in the WRU's proposals to reduce the number of professional rugby regions in Wales
We call on the Welsh Government to intervene and undertake an urgent review of the Welsh Rugby Union's proposals to reduce Wales from four professional rugby regions to three. We hope the Welsh Government, by engaging directly with the WRU, can assess the economic and community impact of the proposals and explore all available options to retain four professional teams.
Rhagor o fanylion
We also hope that the Welsh Government can undertake an independent review of the governance and leadership structure of the WRU; namely, investigating whether the WRU's consultation process has been transparent, fair and sufficiently inclusive of affected clubs, supporters, players, staff and local communities.
Given the national importance of professional rugby to Wales, and the wider public interest in the future of the game, we further call on the Welsh Government to explore all available options to retain four sustainable professional teams and to ensure that any future restructuring is carried out in the interest of Welsh rugby.
