Deiseb a wrthodwyd Show solidarity with the peoples of Venezuela and Cuba

We call on Welsh Government to:
1. Develop cultural, educational, medical and community links with Venezuela and Cuba.
2. Express solidarity with their peoples and condemn economic and military pressures harming citizens.
3. Urge UK Govt to oppose the US blockade of Cuba and Venezuela, and unlawful military intervention, and to act in support of international law.
4. Urge UK Govt to return Venezuela’s gold — 31 tonnes, c.£3.5bn — held in the Bank of England, to fund earthquake recovery.

UN experts describe 'energy starvation' in Cuba from the US blockade: infant mortality has doubled; childhood cancer survival has fallen from 85% to 65%; 40% of Cubans reportedly survive on one meal a day; blackouts exceed 20 hours daily. Venezuela’s June 2026 earthquakes killed thousands, with 50,000 still missing. The Bank of England holds 31 tonnes of Venezuela’s gold, worth c.£3.5bn, despite Venezuela’s request for its return to fund recovery. 30 cross-party MPs already back its return. Senedd has previously engaged with these issues directly: Statement of Opinion OPIN-2021-0218, Wales and Cuba, called on the Welsh Government to develop links with Cuba, and the Petitions Committee has considered humanitarian asks within devolved powers, including aid to Gaza. Wales' tradition of solidarity grounded in self-determination, opposition to collective punishment, and principles of sovereignty, peace & human dignity should guide Wales' response to the situation in Venezuela and Cuba.
